Losses

Lucky "G" Ranch lost one of members December 8th, 2005. Cuddles, our abbysinian X peruvian mix, died mysteriously. He had gotten sick and I had done the best I could do for him, forcefeeding and all that, but just when we thought he had gotten better, we woke up and he was going fast.

But I would rather not dwell on that. I like to think of all the good times I had with him...

We also unfortuanatly had to also give Oreo to a rescude center, "Oops-A-Dazy".

My Story

Cuddles Tale

I first saw Cuddles as a little ball of white fluff with a black eye in a Petcetera pet store. We got him & brought him home. I read that cavies can get lonely when they are caged by themselves, & thinking Cuddles was a sow, we soon found and bought Penny. Though it was not long before we realized that he wasn't a sow & a couple weeks later Cuddles & Penny were parents.

We thought Cuddles would be just a pet, but in September 2003, we became involved in the Calgary 4-H Southpaws. With my parents & Joan's encouragement we got better at being a team. At Achievement Day I was a little discouraged, because we didn't do too well.

But 4-H on Parade I was proved wrong. By getting a 1st in Showmanship & a 4th in Breed Class, we pulled a Best In Show. From that show on, we were a great team & we signed up for any show we could get to. We got to go to Millarville & managed to pull a 1st in Showmanship, 2nd in Pet Class, and a Best Of Breed.  To big breeders, this might not be much, but to us, it was great.

We went into our 2nd year of 4-H. Soon came Millarville again. We did well once again. A Best Of Breed, 3rd in Pet Class & 1st in Showmanship. At the Heritage Park show, we did great!

We got Best Costume, Best Of Breed, Best Pet, Best Rough Coat and Best In Show! It was the best show ever! We soon entered the Chestermere show. We were in the Jr. Division & did excellent. He got 2nd in the "Carrot Eating Contest" a 1st in Showmanship, (We managed to pull a 100/100 score) & Best of Breed.

However, I really should have suspected something when we entered him in "Biggest Pig" Contest as he had always been the biggest pig in our 4-H group at 3 lb. 2 oz. The biggest one was 2 lbs, 9 oz. Cuddles should have won. But he weighed quite a bit less at 2 lb. 4 oz, but I just thought of it as old age, even though he was only three.

In September we began our 3rd year of 4-H & everything was fine for the first month. In mid October he got sick. He lost allot of weight & felt as light as feather. I knew something was terribly wrong.

December 8, 2005, Cuddles had a stroke (from the best we could tell) & died in my arms at 9:37 a.m.

I will always remember Cuddles and never forget him. But I will not remember him as the poor sick animal, but as the small ball of fluff in the pet store window.

Thank you to all the people who helped Cuddles last as long as he did.
