Oreo Finds His Way To Us

Oreo used to belong to a neglecting family down the road. They treated him much like a dog, he lived in their backyard, 24/7. We hadn't known about this, since they had really high fences, until dad was on his way to work one day and called me on his cell, saying a domestic breed of rabbit just ran in front of his car and ducked under a truck.

Well, I went outside, since I was home still, and looked, and sure enough there he was, shivering and frightened. I managed to coax him out with a carrot, but as soon as I dove to catch him, he was gone. So I went back inside and waited for my mom to get home to take me to school.

When we went out, around an hour and a half later, he was still in the same spot. After I finally got him out in the open, with another carrot, and got him to calm down, a freind of his owner came by in a car, and insisted on getting the owner.

Well, they mad a jump for the poor bunny and scared him off, but by then I had to go to school. When I got home, I discovered they had given up and he had gone to the yard on his own.

We watched him carefully over the next couple days and were saddened at the state on whoch they were treating him. They actually left him outside in the rain with no shelter. If we didn't catch him the next day, would call the SPCA. Luckily, the next morning we saw him across the street. We ran out with the butterfly net and he immediatly put up a chase. When we got to the small parking lot in front of the bunny's owners house, the husband came outside. He seemed tired of the rabbit.

He said, "Oh, he's out again, well, if you catch him, you can keep him." Even the son seemed OK about the situation.

So we caught him and brought him inside, hoping now, he too, thinks he has a better life.
